This private tour is designed to fit in with train schedules and makes a great day trip from London or Edinburgh, or as an afternoon tour from Windermere.
Enjoy many scenic highlights, Lakeland villages and an optional cruise on what many people believe to be the most beautiful lake in England.
Tour departs: 1021 from Oxenholme
Finish : 1730 at Windermere or Oxenholme for the 1829 train to London
We drive through the centre of the Lake District alongside the beautiful lakes of Rydal and Grasmere. On a private tour we have the flexibility to break for lunch at Grasmere village or take time to visit inside the home of William Wordsworth at Dove Cottage. Our private journey through the heart continues over Dunmail Raise over the dam of Thirlmere for a stunning view of Helvellyn mountain. Next stop is the mysterious stone circle at Castlerigg where we can walk around to explore some of the ideas as to how and why this circle was built.
Venturing onto roads less travelled the private tour continues through a Lake District farming landscape, past houses built in the 1700s to a stunning viewpoint above Ullswater. Thought by many to be England's most beautiful lake it stretches like a fjord into the mountains, whilst on a clear day we can see in the opposite direction towards the Pennine hills.
On a private Lake District tour there is the option to take a cruise on a heritage vessel operated by Ullswater steamers from Aira Force to Glenridding and experience the Lake District from a different perspective. The cruise is just over one hour long and in good weather not to be missed!
We meet you off the cruise at Glenridding to rejoin the private tour for the drive over Kirkstone Pass which offers spectacular views down to Windermere and the Troutbeck Valley before ending the tour at Windermere.
If you are heading back to London we will transfer you to Oxenholme at no extra charge.
